The goal is straightforward: survive longer than your rivals while building the longest snake possible. Every pellet eaten adds length, which increases your presence in the arena but also makes your snake a larger target. The game ends instantly if your head touches another snake or the arena boundary, so awareness of your surroundings matters as much as speed.
Controls and Moment-to-Moment Decisions
You steer your snake with a mouse or touchscreen, depending on the device. Movement is continuous, so you are always making small adjustments to your path. The core tension comes from deciding when to chase food in open space and when to stay near the edges, where collisions with other snakes are less likely but escape routes are fewer. Because larger snakes occupy more space, they can block narrower paths and force smaller players into risky turns.
Turning Rivals into Growth Opportunities
When another snake crashes, it leaves behind remains that can be eaten for a significant length boost. This creates a second layer of strategy: instead of only collecting pellets, you can position yourself to cut off opponents and let them collide with your body. The risk is that aggressive positioning often puts you near walls or larger snakes. Balancing caution with calculated aggression is the main skill the game rewards over time.

Anguis.io runs in a browser without downloads or installations, and the same simple control scheme works on mobile and desktop. The leaderboard tracks performance across matches, giving regular players a way to measure improvement. Rounds are short enough to fit into a few minutes, but the competitive structure and the presence of other live players mean that consistency, not just reflexes, determines how high you climb.
